Ocular Coherence Topmography (OCT) Scan

We are delighted to announce that after significant investment we can now offer Ocular Coherence Topmography (OCT) scanning. This is the most advanced and up to date technology available for assessing eye health and managing eye conditions including macula degeneration and glaucoma. It lets the optometrist see under the retina and in between the layers of the retina to parts of the eye that cannot be seen by ordinary examination. An OCT scan is non invasive and totally painless similar to ultrasound, the OCT uses light rather than sound waves to give a 3D view of the different layers that make up the back of the eye. This is different from an eye retinal photograph (available at D McGovern Opticians since 2005) which only images the surface of the back of the eye. ‘I am delighted to be able to offer this advanced service,’ explains Donal McGovern Optometrist. ‘This is a benefit to everyone and although the average fee for this is £35 we charge just £10 including retinal photography to make it affordable to everyone' Donal McGovern Optometrist using the OCT scanner on his colleague Lorcan Crudden, Optomoetrist
